The music exists. Why wait?
Women have been writing extraordinary music for centuries.
The music exists. The talent exists. The audiences are ready.
Now it is time to make sure that music is heard.
50 by 2030 is a global movement inviting everyone who chooses and programmes music to work towards one simple goal:
At least 50% music by women composers by 2030.
WHO CAN JOIN?
Everyone.
It doesn’t matter whether you are an orchestra, ensemble, choir, festival, concert series, venue, school, university, amateur group or independent musician.
If you choose the music, you can change the music we hear.
Professional or amateur. Large or small. Anywhere in the world.
You can be part of 50 by 2030.
THE PLEDGE
We commit to working towards at least 50% of our programmed music being by women composers by 2030, and to sharing our progress with the Donne Foundation.
That’s it. One commitment. One goal.
And a growing global community working towards it together.
WHY 50 BY 2030?
For centuries, the overwhelming majority of the music given space on our stages has been written by men.
We know this because we’ve been counting. And we also know something else:
There is no shortage of music by women.
Thousands of women have composed across centuries, countries, cultures, genres and traditions. Women are writing extraordinary music today. The music is there.
So the question is no longer whether we can programme differently.
The question is:
Why wait?
WE’VE DONE SOME OF THE WORK FOR YOU
Finding the music should never be the reason not to programme it.
Donne has built the world’s largest database dedicated to women composers and songwriters, bringing together thousands of creators from across the world and across history.
