OUR FOUNDER
GABRIELLA DI LACCIO
Founder & Curator
Listed as one of the BBC’s 100 most inspirational and influential women in the world in November 2018, award-winning soprano Gabriella Di Laccio is the driving force behind the project Donne, Women in Music.
DONNE is my way, as a musician, to share with as many people as possible the fascinating stories of so many neglected women composers. Sadly, many of them were unrecognised in their lifetimes and, for a series of reasons, their music was allowed to disappear from the public ear, unacknowledged and ignored. By raising awareness about the huge inequality that we currently experience when it comes to knowing these women and hearing their music, we hope to help to create a more equal world for future generations. There are plenty of role models in our history, we simply need to make them more visible!
Here I invite you to be curious: there is a world of music to be discovered so take your time! Learn about their stories on this website, listen to their music, watch interviews with women composers making their mark in the music world right now!
Seeing is part of becoming. It’s our job to amplify the role models from past and present and inspire more women in their careers. This way we can help to create an equal future for music.
Welcome to DONNE! Join us in making a difference!
