OUR FOUNDER
GABRIELLA DI LACCIO
Founder & Director
Listed as one of the BBC’s 100 most inspirational and influential women in the world in November 2018, award-winning soprano Gabriella Di Laccio is the driving force behind Donne, Women in Music.
Recognising the persistent inequities in the music industry, Gabriella set out to create an organisation that not only highlights women’s contributions but also reshapes the narrative of who belongs on stage and behind the scenes.
Her commitment to discovery, empowerment, and systemic change has driven the foundation’s innovative approach — from curating the world’s largest database of women composers to publishing groundbreaking data on gender disparities.
Gabriella’s leadership has fostered a space where overlooked talent is celebrated, invisible communities are connected, and women’s voices are amplified globally.
At the heart of the Donne Foundation is a belief that true equality will only be achieved when women have equal opportunities to create, perform, and lead. Through Gabriella’s vision, the foundation continues to inspire a future where the music industry reflects the richness and diversity of talent that exists in the world.
Creating the Donne Foundation is my commitment to ensuring that the voices of women and underrepresented artists are heard, celebrated, and remembered. When I realised that half of music’s history was missing, I knew I had to act. Through Donne I aim to amplify these voices, build a diverse and inclusive musical landscape, and inspire change. By sharing stories, uncovering forgotten talent, and fostering a global community, we can create a world where everyone’s music is heard — and everyone is inspired.
I invite you to be curious, to share what you learn and to create change together
