Soprano Gabriella Di Laccio receives MBE for services to music and gender equality from HRH the Prince of Wales at Windsor Castle
Soprano and activist Gabriella Di Laccio has officially been invested as a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) at a ceremony held at Windsor Castle on Tuesday 30th September, where she received the honour from HRH The Prince of Wales.
Gabriella was recognised for her services to music and gender equality – a milestone that reflects both her acclaimed international career as a soprano and her pioneering work as founder of the Donne Foundation, a UK-based charity dedicated to increasing visibility and opportunities for women in music.
A globally recognised soprano, cultural changemaker, and tireless advocate, Gabriella’s work spans beyond the stage. Through her leadership at the Donne Foundation, she has become a powerful voice for those historically silenced in the music industry – bringing awareness, creating a global community, sharing important data and creative solutions to challenge the systemic inequalities that have shaped music’s past and present.
“To receive this recognition as a woman and an artist is a moment of profound pride and emotion. The honour is not mine alone: I carry with me the women in my family, the historic women whose music I continue to discover and who inspire me every day, the women of today breaking barriers and the young women who will build our future. May this honour open doors, break barriers and inspire more people to believe in their voices and dreams. And may I continue to serve music and gender equality wherever I go, through my singing and through my actions."
