Lady Margaret Wemyss was a 17th-century Scottish noblewoman and compiler. Her name is particularly known for the Lute Book that was discovered in the 1980s amongst the Sutherland family’s papers. This collection preserves a number of French and Scottish tunes and songs, and includes songs for voice and bass viol, poems, and solo lute music. The book (inscribed 'begun 1643', when Wemyss was only 12) is now on loan to the National Library of Scotland.
