Galina Ivanovna Ustvolskaya, was a Russian composer of classical music. Known by Dutch critic Elmer Schönberger as "the lady with the hammer", her music has been described as demanding "everything from the performer", uncompromising in her trademark textured homophonic blocks of sound.
