Guilhermine Sabatier, also known as 'Madame Amelot', while serving as court pianist to the queen of the Belgians in the 1840s, concurrently gave many solo recitals and also performed regularly with the cello virtuoso François De Munck. She was married to Louis-Eugène Amelot, from Mechelen, himself an excellent amateur violinist, but she continued appearing under her own name. This was quite exceptional, for most female musicians abandoned their maiden name after their marriage and resolutely adopted the name of their husband.
