NAVARRO, Carmen Martinón
Carmen Martinón Navarro was a prominent composer and director of the Orquesta de the Philharmonic Society. In 1900 Carmen married the musician Luis Manchado Medina, and from then on she composed some works together with him, a rare case. Her move to Madrid, following her husband's professional career, allows her to further studies at the Royal Conservatory.
Between 1906 and 1911 they settled in Zaragoza, where she led the Figueras Regiment band, and from that last year she was assigned to Madrid where she was in charge of the Savoy band, attached to the Royal Palace. It is then that she was offered the opportunity to be invited to participate as a pianist in the gatherings that the Infanta Isabel organized in the Palace, in which she presented some of her compositions, among which are several pianistics, some songs and others for band.
Her return to Las Palmas in 1914 and the arrival of several children, gradually added her work to anonymity.
