HAMOND, Luciana

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Luciana Hamond is a multifaceted artist and academic, with roles as a pianist, composer, music educator, academic mentor, and researcher. Currently residing in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, Brazil, she has previously lived in London, UK, for five years and in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil, for two years. Luciana completed her PhD in Music Education from the UCL Institute of Education at University College London, UK. She holds a Master's in Music and a Bachelor's in Music from UNIRIO, Brazil. Her research investigated the use of digital technologies in piano studios. Further, she completed a two-year post-doctorate program at the State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC) in Florianópolis, SC. As a pianist, Luciana launched her debut CD in 2010, featuring Brazilian piano works by Edmundo Villani-Cortes. As a composer, she has been crafting improvisation-based piano pieces since 2016, with distinct phases of her work emerging in 2016, 2018, and 2020. She has been actively performing her compositions since 2018. In her role as an academic mentor, she is a frequent reviewer for various academic journals. During her stay in London, she was also an active member of the Southbank Gamelan Players.
