Louise Denson (Senior Lecturer, Jazz, Queensland Conservatorium) is a pianist, composer and educator. She holds a Masters in Jazz (New England Conservatory, Boston), and a Doctorate of Musical Arts (Griffith University, Brisbane). The Louise Denson Group has released four CDs of original material including Clean Start (2003 Queensland Sunnie Award: Best Jazz Recording), and Flame Tree (2010), which features Afro-Cuban and Brazilian themed compositions. Predominantly a jazz composer, Denson’s recent work includes songs for classical voice and chamber groups. Her compositions have been performed and recorded by the Wild Silk Strings Project, Muses Piano Trio, Griffith Trio, Southern Cross Soloists, Queensland Conservatorium Saxophone Orchestra, Brisbane Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, Collusion, Bell Award-winning vocalist Elly Hoyt, and L.A.-based jazz fusion group San Gabriel 7. Denson has performed at the Montreal International Jazz Festival, Wangaratta Festival of Jazz, Melbourne International Women’s Jazz Festival, Manly Jazz Festival among many other public and private performances.
