CAWRSE, Anne

Anne Cawrse is an Australian composer of orchestral, chamber, vocal, choral and solo music. Born in South Australia, she completed a PhD in Composition at the Elder Conservatorium of Music in 2008. Her music is distinguished by lyrical melodic writing, rhythmic vitality and a colourful harmonic language, often drawing inspiration from literature and the work of women writers and artists. Her compositions include the opera Innocence, the orchestral work The Rest Is Silence, the marimba concerto Dare to Declare, On Earth as in Heaven for choir and the string quartet A Room of Her Own, which won the 2021 Art Music Award for Chamber Music.
