CARR, Kate

Kate Carr is an Australian composer, sound artist and field recordist based in London. She works across composition, performance and sound installation and teaches music production at the London College of Communication. Carr completed a doctorate at the university’s Creative Research into Sound Arts Practice centre and is also the founder of the experimental record label Flaming Pines.
Her work combines environmental field recordings, electronic sound, found objects, movement and experimental recording techniques. She is particularly interested in the relationship between sound, people and place, especially within shared urban environments. Her albums and sound projects include Midsummer, London, The Thing Itself and Not the Myth, I Had Myself a Nuclear Spring, City of Bridges, Contact and A Field Guide to Phantasmic Birds. Her work has been commissioned by BBC Radio 3, the Barbican and the Coventry Biennial.
