Tommie Ewert Carl was an American composer, producer and advocate for women in music. In 1976, she founded American Women Composers, an organization created to promote music by women composers. She served as its president until 1988, organizing concerts, producing recordings and establishing an archive of scores, manuscripts and recordings by women. The organization later became part of the International Alliance for Women in Music.
