Cangiano, Maria

Maria Cangiano is an Argentine singer, composer, songwriter, and vocal artist whose work brings together Latin American folk traditions, tango, Afro-Latin rhythms, jazz, classical vocal training, and world music. Born in Buenos Aires, she comes from a family of Italian origin and originally pursued academic work in Latin American history before turning fully to performance and music. After moving to the United States, she developed a career as a classically trained mezzo-soprano and later became known for her dramatic interpretations of tango, especially the repertoire of Astor Piazzolla. As a composer and songwriter, Cangiano writes original songs that combine Latin American folk and Afro-rooted traditions with jazz and classical influences. Her album Corazón de Mujer / Heart of a Woman presents her own original songs and highlights her expressive vocal style, while her wider discography includes Ballads for My Life and Death: Tribute to Piazzolla, Renaceré: Piazzolla x Cangiano, and Pandemonium.
