CAMPOS-FONSECA, Susan

Susan Campos-Fonseca (born 1975 in Costa Rica) is a Costa Rican composer, sound artist, conductor, multi-instrumentalist and musicologist. She holds a doctorate in music and a master’s degree in Spanish and Ibero-American thought from the Autonomous University of Madrid, as well as a degree in musical conducting from the University of Costa Rica.
Her creative practice encompasses electroacoustic music, instrumental musique concrète, spectralism, post-minimalism, improvisation and experimental sound. Her works often explore relationships between music, technology, cultural philosophy, feminism and decolonial thought. Among her documented compositions are 7” for horn and fixed electronics, the collaborative project A Woman of No Importance, and Los niños gritan y casi ahogan for soprano, guitar and prepared piano.
Campos-Fonseca is a professor and researcher at the University of Costa Rica, where she has been associated with the School of Musical Arts, the Institute for Research in Art and the Historical Musical Archive. In 2012, she received the Casa de las Américas Musicology Prize.
