Sophie Zapletal is an Austrian music teacher, pianist, singer and composer. She made her first public appearances around 1898 as part of so-called "popular concerts" organized by the Wiener Volksbildungsverein. She was also active in the Association of Female Music Teachers in Vienna (Verein der Musiklehrerinnen in Wien), serving as its secretary in 1911–12. From 1914 onwards, she was a member of the Austrian Association of Music Educators (Österreichischer Musik-Pädagogischen Verband). Some of Z.’s piano compositions—possibly written for her students—were performed in 1949 in the Chamber Music Hall of the Vienna Musikverein by piano students of Lea Schmid-Zettelmann; it appears that none of these works were ever published.
