Iva Zabkar grew up in Vienna, where she attended the Bundesgymnasium und Bundesrealgymnasium Wien III Boerhaavegasse, specialising in music and piano. She began composing her first works during her school years. From 2001 to 2006, she studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna, focusing on instrumental and vocal pedagogy (IGP), popular music keyboards and classical piano. From 2006 onwards, she studied media composition with Reinhard Karger at the mdw. She made her feature film debut in 2012 with director Umut Dağ’s 'Kuma', with further collaborations following. She is an instructor at the Popakademie / JSBM Music School in Vienna and has produced material for the female art-pop project iNANA, as well as tracks and remixes for her own projects, soundfootage and kotomaki. She is a co-founder of the composer collective track15 and the Vienna-based music label/collective Beatzarilla, and is a member of the Austrian Film Academy.
