Magret Wolf is a German composer. She grew up in Munich, learned violin and piano, and began composing at the age of seven. From 1974, she studied composition and music theory.
Among her most important works are Gilgal for horn and orchestra (1989) and the ballet music Kain weHewel for percussion quintet (1993). After a personal meeting with the Kyrgyz poet Chingiz Aitmatov in Brussels in 1997, Wolf secured the rights to the novella The Boy and the Sea (Пегий пес, бегущий краем моря) and based it on the libretto and music for the opera Kirisk – The Boy and the Sea, which is considered her major work.
