Madeleine Will was born on November 1, 1910, in Mulhouse in a Protestant family of music lovers. She trained at the conservatories of Mulhouse and Basel, where she studied organ with Adolphe Hamm and was the only woman in Felix Weingartner's conducting class. From 1946, Madeleine Will taught organ, composition, harmony, counterpoint and music history at the Mulhouse Conservatory. She spent her entire career there until her retirement in 1979, training many musicians, including André Stricker, Agnès Candau, Daniel Maurer, Frédéric Humber and Pascal Reber
