The pianist and composer Elzbieta Wiedner-Zajac was born in Będzin (Poland) and has lived in Vienna since 1979. She completed her piano studies at the music academies in Katowice and Gdańsk with Zbigniew Śliwiński, at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with György Sándor, and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Dieter Weber.
Throughout her career, the pianist made numerous solo recordings for radio and television; her television program "The Artistry of Elzbieta Zajac" was broadcast in ten US states. Her LP and CD recordings received excellent reviews from the music press.
From 1982 to 2009, Elzbieta Wiedner-Zajac taught piano at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts, becoming an associate professor after receiving her habilitation in 2004. Since 1999, Elzbieta Wiedner-Zajac has also pursued her compositional ideas. Her debut concert as a composer took place in 2004 at the Alte Schmiede art association in Vienna. Since then, her works have been featured in international concert programs. She received the recognition prize at the Jenö Takács Composition Competition for her work "Oh Ferner Vogel…" (Vocalise) for voice and piano (left hand only).
