VAN LAETHEM, Els

Els Van Laethem is a Belgian singer and mezzo-soprano. She comes from a musical family: her sister Katelijne Van Laethem is also a mezzo-soprano, her sister An Van Laethem and her brother Bert Van Laethem are both violinists. She studied singing at the Lemmens Institute (the conservatory of Leuven) with Lieve Vanhaverbeke and then specialized in early music.

Together with Dick van der Harst (guitar and bandoneon) Els Van Laethem forms the duo Plutôt Vénus. They bring music of all times, including their own compositions. In 2012 she took part in the productions En atendant en Cesena by the Rosas ballet company by choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.
