VALDÉS, Diana Syrse

Diana Syrse is an award-winning composer and singer, recognized as one of the most compelling voices of her generation. Her distinctions include the City of Munich Prize, the Teatro La Fenice Prize, and the Fedora Audience Award, among other international recognitions. Her catalogue comprises more than one hundred works, ranging from song to opera, musical theatre, orchestral, choral, chamber, and electroacoustic music, with over fifteen stage productions. Many of her works are commissioned for her own voice, either as a soloist or in combination with other instruments, and have been performed by herself as well as by other interpreters at international festivals.​ As a composer-singer, and occasionally writer of her own texts, she is interested in creating music through a conceptual and dramaturgical musical development influenced by dialogue with theatre and text, engaging in multiple interdisciplinary collaborations and amplifying new contemporary narratives centered on politically and socially relevant themes. Her work is defined by emotional depth driven by voice, text, and emotional intensity. She also moves between a rigorous compositional practice and a more instinctive, intimate songwriting world, as two complementary dimensions of a single artistic voice. Holding a doctorate in composition from institutions in Mexico, the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom, she is published by Ricordi, Éditions Lacroch', and Sur Editions.
