VALANCIUTE, Nomeda

Nomeda Valančiūtė (b. 1961) is a Lithuanian composer who studied composition with Professor Julius Juzeliūnas at the Lithuanian Academy of Music between 1979 and 1984. A leading representative of the generation of Lithuanian composers that followed the “New Romantics,” she has developed a distinctive minimalist style based on repetitive processes, austere structures, and precisely crafted forms. Her music balances intuitive creative impulses with rigorous compositional techniques, often employing ostinato patterns, prepared piano, and restrained yet powerful expression. Valančiūtė has received numerous awards, including three S. Šimkus Prizes for choral music and several Lithuanian Music Fund composition prizes, as well as creative residencies in Germany. Her works have been performed at major international festivals, including ISCM World Music Days, MaerzMusik (Berlin), A*Devantgarde (Munich), and festivals throughout Europe and Japan.
