VAINIO, Jennah

Jennah Vainio (b. 1972) is a Finnish composer born in Helsinki. She studied composition at the University of Helsinki and the Sibelius Academy, and further refined her craft through masterclasses with composers including Magnus Lindberg, Jouni Kaipainen, Brian Ferneyhough, Olli Kortekangas, and Sven-David Sandström. Her music has been performed internationally by leading orchestras, choirs, and ensembles, and has been described as cinematic, powerful, emotionally expressive, and stylistically versatile. Most of her works are commissions, ranging from chamber and orchestral music to vocal works, while her breakthrough came with the world's first Concerto for Beatboxer and Orchestra, first performed in 2010 by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra under Marin Alsop.
