URTEAGA, Irma

Composer and pianist . She began her studies in Paraná (Entre Ríos province) and continued them in Buenos Aires with María Lucrecia Madariaga de Gilardi, Josefa Hernandorena, and Jorge Fanelli (piano); and Beatriz Hernandorena and Gilardo Gilardi (harmony). She took exams as an external student at the "Carlos López Buchardo" National Conservatory of Music and obtained her teaching degree, specializing in piano, in 1959. She later studied composition at the same institution, earning the Gold Medal for best graduate of 1971. Her principal teachers in composition were Roberto Caamaño and Valdo Sciammarella; in instrumentation, Roberto García Morillo ; and in history and aesthetics, Carlos Sufern and Alicia Terzian.
