Mercedes Ubach Solà was born in Terrassa on October 29, 1869, the third of five children of Narcisa Solá and Antonio Ubach. In 1895 she married the manufacturer Alfonso Freixa i Argemí, with whom she had five children. In 1907 she premiered two zarzuelas that were very well received in Barcelona. El redoblante , a zarzuela in one act and three scenes, based on a historical episode from the preliminaries of the French Revolution with a libretto by José del Cacho and performed by the baritone Gregorio Cruzada, premiered on March 8 at the Teatro Nuevo; and La gran turca, a comic-lyric farce in one act, with text by José Angulo and José del Cacho, premiered at the Teatro Cómico on June 19, 1907. This work was also performed a few months later in Zaragoza and Palma de Mallorca. She died on February 23, 1935, at the age of 66, and was buried in Terrassa.
