TAGLIAPIETRA-CARRENO, Teresita

Teresita Tagliapietra-Carreño (1882–1951) was an American pianist and composer. The daughter of the celebrated Venezuelan pianist and composer Teresa Carreño and the Italian tenor Giovanni Tagliapietra, she was raised in a distinguished musical family and pursued a career as a concert pianist. In addition to her performing activities, she composed a number of short piano works in a late Romantic style. Her surviving compositions include the collection 3 Morceaux, comprising Tristesse, Minuetto in stilo antico, and Petite berceuse. Among these, Petite berceuse and Minuetto in stilo antico have remained particularly well known and have appeared in pedagogical and performance settings, with the latter also receiving arrangements for other instrumental ensembles. Through her work as both a performer and composer, Tagliapietra-Carreño continued the musical legacy of one of the nineteenth century’s most distinguished musical families.
