TA, Emily

Emily Ta is an award-winning composer and multi-instrumentalist whose music combines traditional and "modern classical" influences. Deeply rooted in Celtic, English, and early American folk traditions, her work features nostalgic aesthetics, strong melodies, and acoustic instrumentation. Ta is a cellist by trade but also plays the saxophone, mandolin, and fife. Her deep love for historical and folk music heavily informs her compositional voice. She studied composition at the Bard College Conservatory of Music under prominent contemporary composers, including George Tsontakis, Jessie Montgomery, Missy Mazzoli, and Joan Tower. Her works have been performed by professional and educational groups such as the Relâche Ensemble and the Da Capo Chamber players.
