She had her first music lessons with his father, and then she was admitted at the Leipzig Conservatoire, where she studied piano with Carl Reinicke and Ernst Ferdinand Wenzel, and took many courses of theory, composition, chamber music and musicology. She was enrolled in the same conservatoire in 1877. She enjoyed an active career as a performer, both as a soloist and in chamber ensembles.
