Leslie Ross, bassoonist, improviser, composer and instrument builder has been creating and performing her own work since the mid 80s. Her solo works have included performances on acoustic bassoon, amplified bassoon with electronics and interactively with computers. She has also created works for various constructed instruments, a few examples are: the "Tentacled Bellows' - a foot powered drone machine that combines the principles of an organ and bagpipe (built as a portable armourlike, houselike structure); 'Circular Bowed and Teetering Plucked' - a large installation of electronically manipulated mechanical structures; 'Ice on a Wire' - an installation with plucked string and shifting pitch caused by melting ice; 'Quilled Piano' - a transformed upright piano into a manipulable music box; 'Obstinate Thrumbers' - dozens of wind up percussive and strummed sound objects. She has also created original sound scores, sound installations as well as musical compositions for many choreographers including: Scott Heron, Cathy Weiss, Cydney Wilkes, Linda Austin, Yvonne Meier. Her group compositions have included works with the collaborative trio 'Trigger'(1989-1994) and other small groups. Very active for many years as an improviser she has played and toured with numerous musicians including: Eugene Chadborne, David Watson, Fred Lunberg-Holmes, Daniel Goode, Paul Lovens among many others.
