ROSCO, B. J.

B. J. Rosco was an American composer who wrote numerous original compositions for piano and orchestra. Her works have been performed in composers symposia, workshops, new music concerts and lecture/recitals, both in the United States and Europe. She has been commissioned to compose new works by many publications and organizations. These include commissions from: Clavier Magazine, Joanna Hodges Summer Piano Seminar, Southwestern Youth Music Festival and Washington State Music Teachers Association (WSMTA), which is affiliated with the Music Teachers National Association. Rosco was also honoured as the 2004 Composer of the Year by WSMTA.

Several of Rosco's works have received a world premiere, including the "The Festival" for piano and orchestra, which was performed by The Spokane Youth Symphony with conductor James Schoepflin and pianist Archie Chen.

The niche she strived to fill as a composer was writing serious music in the idiom of 20th century composers to develop the visual, aural, and tactile senses of young musicians so that when they reach the advanced levels of literature, they are better prepared.
