Morfydd Owen, sometimes known by her bardic name Morfydd 'Llwyn' Owen, was a Welsh composer born in Treforest in 1891. Despite a short life, she died at 26, leaving over 150 compositions ranging from classical to folk music. Owen studied in Cardiff and London and was known for her connection to Wales and the Welsh language, which heavily influenced her work. She was also noted for her engagement with the creative and political elite of her time and her distinctive fashion sense. A festival celebrating her life and work is held annually in Pontypridd, aiming to inspire creativity and encourage the valuing of women's contributions.
