Mitzi von Mautner Markhof (Maria von Mautner Markhof, née Baroness von Reininghaus) was an Austrian composer, pianist, and cultural figure active in Vienna around the turn of the 20th century. Born into the prominent Styrian Reininghaus brewing family and marrying into the renowned Viennese Mautner Markhof industrial dynasty, she moved within the leading intellectual, artistic, and aristocratic circles of Fin-de-Siècle Vienna. Her private salons served as dynamic gathering spaces for Austrian musicians, writers, and visual artists of the Secessionist era. Her compositional output was focused primarily on vocal and domestic keyboard forms typical of the late romantic Austrian tradition, including German art songs (Lieder) and piano character pieces. Her songs, often setting romantic and symbolist German poetry, are characterized by rich chromatic harmonies, expressive vocal lines, and nuanced, supportive keyboard accompaniments in the lineage of Johannes Brahms and Hugo Wolf.
