MARIN, Dolores Fernandez

Dolores Fernández Marín (known professionally as Lola Fernández) is a contemporary Spanish composer, musicologist, and pedagogue born on June 25, 1961, in Pueblonuevo (Córdoba). She completed higher conservatory studies in musical composition, subsequently specializing in electroacoustic and computer music. Her comprehensive academic background provided a solid foundation in both avant-garde contemporary techniques and the analytical study of traditional Spanish musical idioms.

As a composer, Fernández Marín integrates contemporary harmonic languages, electroacoustic experimentation, and acoustic concert forms, often drawing subtle structural or timbral inspiration from Iberian traditions. In 1994, she received critical acclaim when she was awarded the prestigious Premi de Composició Frederic Mompou for her compositional work. Her catalog includes solo instrumental, electroacoustic, and chamber scores—notably "Cromofonías" (1996), a work in three movements ("Abecedari", "Mimetisme", and "Polifonia") that explores instrumental color and sonic interplay. Parallel to her composition, Fernández Marín is a respected scholar and pedagogue, particularly noted for her contributions to music theory and the academic study of flamenco (flamencología).
