MANNICK, Marie-Annick Retif

Marie-Annick Rétif (professionally known as Mannick) is an acclaimed French singer, songwriter, and composer. She began her musical path in the 1960s with the vocal group Les Collégiennes de la chanson before joining the influential folk ensemble Crèche in the early 1970s alongside artists like Bernard Haillant and Jo Akepsimas, establishing herself as a central figure in modern French chanson.

Launching her solo career in the mid-1970s, Mannick achieved widespread critical acclaim with her landmark album "Paroles de femme" (1976), which won the prestigious Grand Prix du Disque from the Académie Charles-Cros in 1977. Over a prolific career spanning dozens of albums, she has composed and recorded expressive, socially conscious works exploring women's experiences, love, and human solidarity, while simultaneously building a vast and beloved catalogue of children's songs and contemporary spiritual music.
