MANI, Zahra

Zahra Mani (b. 1976 in London) is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, sound artist, and curator based in Austria. She studied literature and philosophy at the University of Leeds before turning fully to experimental composition, sound design, and acoustic ecology.

Mani’s artistic practice centers on electroacoustic composition, radio art, multi-channel sound installations, and live performance using bass guitar, double bass, custom electronics, and processed field recordings. Her work explores psychoacoustics, spatial relationships, and the transformation of environmental soundscapes into layered narrative textures. A prominent voice in European experimental music, she is co-founder of the cultural initiative Klanghaus Untergreith in Styria, produces works for platforms such as Ö1 Kunstradio and the EBU Ars Acustica group, and serves in leadership roles within international contemporary music networks, including the European Composer and Songwriter Alliance (ECSA).
