MANDL, Berta

Berta Mandl was an Austrian soprano, composer, pianist, and music educator. Demonstrating early musical talent, she made her public debut as a pianist at age seven before pursuing advanced training in Vienna, where she completed her stage examination for opera (1940) and teaching certification in voice and piano (1941).

As a composer, her catalog encompassed vocal music, singspiels, melodramas, lieder with piano, Viennese songs (Wienerlieder), and instrumental character pieces. Her works were regularly broadcast on Radio Wien and published by prominent houses such as Friedrich Hofmeister and Figaro Verlag. In 1981, she was appointed Full Professor of Voice (ordentliche Hochschulprofessorin) at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien).
