MANDANICI, Marcella

Marcella Mandanici is an Italian composer, music researcher, and pedagogue. She completed comprehensive musical studies in piano, harpsichord, and composition at the conservatories of Brescia and Milan—perfecting her compositional craft under Franco Donatoni and early music under Ton Koopman—before later earning a degree in Electronic Music and a Ph.D. in Information Engineering from the University of Padua.

Mandanici’s creative and research output stands at the intersection of contemporary composition, electroacoustic music, sound and music computing (SMC), and interactive music education. Between 1986 and 1993, she served as artistic director of Nuovi Spazi Sonori, an influential association dedicated to the promotion and documentation of contemporary music. Her catalogue encompasses chamber, orchestral, theatrical, and multimedia works performed at international contemporary music festivals (including ISCM World Music Days and Steirischer Herbst) alongside pioneering research into interactive digital spaces, multisensory sound interfaces, and music technology for rehabilitation and accessibility. She serves as a professor of music education and music technology at the Conservatorio Luca Marenzio in Brescia.
