MANCUSO, Francesca

Francesca Mancuso was an early 17th-century Italian nun, singer, and composer active during the transition from the late Renaissance to the early Baroque era. Based in southern Italy, she lived and served in a cloistered convent, which served as a vital center of sacred vocal performance, polyphony, and creative output for women musicians of the period.

Despite her brief life, Mancuso contributed to the rich tradition of Italian convent polyphony, composing sacred vocal works, motets, and liturgical chants intended for monastic prayer and chapel performance.
