MAMEDOVA, Aliya

Aliya Mamedova (also spelled Aliya Mammadova) is a contemporary Azerbaijani composer and music theorist. Formed within the rich tradition of the Azerbaijani school of composition, she received professional conservatory training in classical composition, harmony, and analysis.

Mamedova’s catalogue spans contemporary chamber, solo instrumental, and orchestral works, often synthesizing modern Western avant-garde techniques with traditional Azerbaijani melodic and modal (mugham-inspired) elements. Among her notable compositions are works for traditional instruments and chamber ensembles (such as her pieces for tar and ensemble), solo guitar works including Dialogue with Silence (Dialogue with silence : für Gitarre solo, 1994), and chamber instrumental duos such as Shovq for violin and piano.
