MAKLAKIEWICZ, Maja

Maja Agnieszka Maklakiewicz is a contemporary Polish violinist, composer, and pedagogue born in Warsaw into the renowned Maklakiewicz musical family. She completed master’s degrees with distinction in violin performance, music theory, and composition at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel), later pursuing doctoral studies (DMA) at the Texas Tech University School of Music.

As a performer and creator, Maklakiewicz has built an international career bridging contemporary composition, solo and chamber performance, and orchestral leadership (including appearances as concertmaster and soloist across Europe, the United States, Mexico, and China). In addition to her active performing and pedagogical work, she is a dedicated interpreter and champion of Polish violin repertoire and contemporary works.

Her compositional work focuses heavily on contemporary chamber music, acoustic experimentation, and unique arrangements for strings. She routinely writes, arranges, and premieres pieces tailored for chamber ensembles, string duos, and modern quartets. She actively participates in new music initiatives, such as the Contemporary Music Ensemble at Texas Tech University, where she works on fresh compositions. Her collaborative works include projects like the piece "Adieu" (2021).
