MAKKAI, Gyongyver

Gyöngyvér Makkai is a Hungarian-Transylvanian composer, musicologist, pianist, and music pedagogue. Educated in classical piano, music theory, and musicology in Romania, she has dedicated much of her career to higher music education and choral culture, serving as a professor at the Department of Musical Arts at the University of Arts in Târgu Mureș (Marosvásárhelyi Művészeti Egyetem) as well as teaching at the Vocational High School of Arts.

As a composer, Makkai is widely known for her choral, sacred, and pedagogical music. Her creative catalogue includes extensive vocal cycles, sacred compositions, and instructional literature—notably highlighted by her publication "Canonicale", a comprehensive collection of 72 canons for choirs and vocal ensembles. In addition to her compositions, she is active in arranging music for theatre and literary-musical performances, and writes spiritual and reflective poetry.
