MÄKELÄ, Mirja

Mirja Mäkelä is a Finnish jazz musician, vocalist, and composer who was born on 16 September 1968. Since 1992, she has led her own musical bands in her career as a jazz artist.
Mäkelä has achieved recognition for her vocal performances in Finland. In 1994, she won the "Lady Summertime" jazz voice competition held in Finland. Additionally, she was voted as the best female jazz singer in Finland on several occasions by the Finnish magazine "Jazzrytmit".
Her career is defined by her work as a Finnish jazz vocalist and composer, as well as her role as a bandleader of her own ensembles starting in 1992. Through winning the 1994 "Lady Summertime" competition and earning multiple best female jazz singer recognitions from "Jazzrytmit", Mäkelä established her standing within Finnish jazz music.
