MAKARASHVILI, Lela

Lela Makarashvili is a Georgian composer, musicologist, pianist, singer, and educator. She received comprehensive early musical training at the Z. Paliashvili Central Music School ("Decade of Talents") and went on to work extensively with institutions such as the V. Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatoire and the International Research Center for Traditional Polyphony. A prominent member of the Georgian Composers Union since 2010, she has also been instrumental as a project author and editor for initiatives documenting the heritage of Georgian women composers.

Makarashvili’s compositional output spans symphonic, chamber-instrumental, chamber-vocal, choral, and children's music. Rooted in Georgian melodic and polyphonic traditions while embracing modern classical forms, her works—ranging from solo piano preludes and fugues to larger ensemble pieces—have earned major recognition, including 1st Prize in Chamber Music at the National Competition of Composers in Georgia (2022).
