MAJLATH, Julia

Júlia Majláth was an influential Hungarian popular music composer, songwriter, and pianist. Educated in Budapest, she completed private and conservatory training in classical piano and composition before emerging as one of the defining voices of Hungary’s postwar popular song and light entertainment culture in the mid-20th century.

As a composer, Majláth authored a prolific catalog of hit songs (slágerek), theatrical musical scores, dance tunes, and film tracks. Many of her compositions—including evergreen standards such as "Különös éjszaka volt" (It Was a Strange Night), "Nem várok holnapig" (I Won't Wait Until Tomorrow), and "Amikor virágba borultak az orgonák" became central to Hungarian radio broadcasts, record charts, and television song festivals (such as the Táncdalfesztivál), interpreted by leading vocal stars like Katalin Sárosi, János Vámosi, and Sarolta Zalatnay.
