The Katoomba Waltz was Mary McCarron Maguire's first published composition. It likely first appeared in 1895 and was a success.
Maguire sent her music to Queen Victoria, who accepted it with pleasure. She also composed two other waltzes: The Antonina and The Commonwealth, both of which became popular at the time.
Mary may have taught music after she stopped publishing. Whether she continued to compose, even if only for herself or for family and friends, remains a mystery.
