MACGREGOR, Joanna

Joanna Clare MacGregor CBE is a British concert pianist, conductor, composer, and festival curator. She is Head of Piano at the Royal Academy of Music and a professor of the University of London. She was Artistic Director of Dartington International Summer School & Festival 2014-2019, Artistic Director of the Bath International Music Festival 2006-2012, and curated the multi-arts Deloitte Ignite Festival at the Royal Opera House, as well as Aventures+, an orchestral series for Luxembourg Philharmonie.

In the early years of her performing career, MacGregor was a prolific composer for the theatre, particularly of Shakespeare. She music-directed and scored for "Cheek by Jowl" and the "Oxford Stage Company" in productions of Romeo and Juliet (1985), Twelfth Night (1986) and Hamlet, the former of which featured eminent performances from British national treasures Ralph Fiennes and Hugh Bonneville.
