Born Catherine Charlotte Prittie in November 1805 in Corville, County Tipperary, Ireland, Maberly was the daughter of Hon. Francis Aldborough Prittie and Elizabeth Ponsonby. Maberly was a novelist and poet who wrote predominantly historical fiction though she also wrote some non fiction. She is buried in Cowes on the Isle of Wight with her only son, William Anson Robert Maberly. She also wrote songs and ballads with various collections including voice combinations and piano with titles such as; 'Otterbourne' (To horse, to horse), 'The fairy queen' (Come follow me), and 'The world is wide' (I lie in a heavy trance).
