L’ALLEMAND, Pauline

Pauline C. l'Allemand (1856–1944) was an American soprano born in Syracuse, New York. She studied voice in Syracuse before continuing her training in Dresden, Stuttgart, and Paris with renowned teachers including Pauline Viardot. She performed professionally throughout Europe, appearing in opera houses in Königsberg, Frankfurt, Leipzig, and Riga, before returning to the United States in 1886 to perform with the American Opera Company in productions such as The Magic Flute and Lakmé. Later, she sang with the Boston Ideal Opera Company and worked as a music teacher, composer, and author. She was married to Austrian actor Marcus James l'Allemand and was the mother of artist and violinist Edgar l'Allemand.
