LADO, Norma

Norma Lados was an Argentinian composer and pianist. She studied piano with Haydée Loustaunau and gave numerous concerts in Buenos Aires and other cities throughout Argentina. Invited by the dancer Paulina Ossona, she accompanied her on several tours of cities in the interior of the country and neighboring countries, performing as both a soloist and accompanist. She studied composition (harmony, counterpoint, and fugue) under the tutelage of Jacobo Ficher. In 1968, she won a composition grant from the National Endowment for the Arts through a competitive process. She served as a board member and President the United Composers of Argentina.

In 1988, she won the Argentinian National Arts Fund Award "Incentive and Support Program for Argentine Musical Production and Industry," which enabled her to record her works "Four Children's Images" for piano, recorded by the renowned pianist Dora Castro, and "Interiors I," recorded by cellist Carlos Nozzi and pianist Haydée Schvartz. Also in 1988, she was selected to compose a work commissioned by the National Arts Fund, for which she wrote "Interiors III" for flute, clarinet, cello, and piano. That same year, she won the First Municipal Prize in the chamber music category. She served as a juror on several occasions, convened by the National Arts Fund and the National Secretariat of Culture, in this case for the selection of the National Composition Prizes.
