LAAT, Marion De

Composer and accordionist Marion de Laat's love of music began when she founded her first small ensemble at 9 years old. The ensemble was allowed to perform in various classes from time to time, with her own music being performed, and of course, all on cheap toy instruments. After taking accordion lessons at music school for 6 years, de Laat went on to study accordion at the Maastricht Conservatory, where she obtained her teaching musician diploma in 1987. She went on to study composition at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where she graduated in 1991. As a performing musician, she has performed both at home and abroad, as a soloist and as a co-founder and member of various ensembles. As a composer, she has written music for various ensembles and soloists, such as ensemble WORM, Raduga ensemble, Annelie de Man, and Tjeerd Oostendorp.

She is currently the resident accompanist and artistic director of the Mama Verhalen Koor.
